Announcing invoice flexibility in Orb

Flexibility has always formed the foundation for how we built Orb. From shaping the price change experience on a customer by customer basis, to empowering our customers to rapidly experiment with novel price models, flexibility is built into everything we ship.

We’re taking the next step toward that North Star with Orb Invoice Flexibility. Now, Orb users can choose how their customers receive invoices after price changes, giving teams more control over timing, communication, and the customer experience.

The new reality of price changes

Rapid price iteration has become the new normal. As companies look for the best way to monetize AI products, price changes are happening more frequently than before. What once happened annually now occurs quarterly or monthly. Rather than making large and sudden overhauls, experimentation through small, incremental changes has proven to be more effective and allows companies to learn and adapt in real time.

Fast iteration is now the gold standard. But price changes are more than an orchestration challenge. They can put a lot of strain on customers.

Customer trust and loyalty are priceless, and deploying price changes thoughtfully is essential to maintaining those relationships. Orb Invoice Flexibility reflects our commitment to helping companies deliver great customer experiences.

Orb’s approach to price changes

We believe that flexibility should be at the core of price changes. Staying adaptable in a competitive market, making careful, data-driven decisions, and treading lightly around sensitive customer relationships can often feel like competing priorities. But Orb is built to help any business manage these three levers.

  • Speed: In a competitive market where compute costs, competitors, and your product are constantly evolving, the ability to test, learn, and adjust quickly is a non-negotiable. Orb enables rapid experimentation by making it easy to change pricing in minutes, not months.
  • Decisioning: Speed alone isn’t enough. Every price change should be defensible and data-driven. Orb helps companies connect the dots between pricing and profits.
  • Customer experience: Even small changes can carry big weight for customers. Orb gives teams the tools to gradually roll out new pricing, exclude accounts, align adjustments with renewal cycles, and preserve long-term relationships.

These are all enabled by Orb’s unique approach to revenue data — everything happening in Orb references a single source of truth that gives you a complete view of every product, price and customer.

Orb Invoice Flexibility: Choose how mid-cycle price changes are invoiced

Orb has always put the customer experience at the center of how we design price changes. Our migrations tool, which helps teams plan rollouts customer by customer, was built around that philosophy.

Today, we’re excited to roll out the first of several powerful updates that provide even more flexibility in how teams operationalize pricing. Orb Invoice Flexibility lets you choose how and when invoices reflect price changes:

  • Defer mid-cycle price changes to the next scheduled invoice, or create an immediate invoice with the change.
  • Invoices with mid-cycle price changes clearly indicate the service period for each line item.
  • Configure invoice deferrals in the Orb platform or via API.

With Orb Invoice Flexibility, companies can align pricing changes to their unique billing and customer communication strategies, ensuring changes land smoothly and transparently. It’s another step in our ongoing commitment to equip teams with the tools they need to balance business agility with exceptional customer experiences.
