A field guide to pricing pages.

The Pricing Atlas is a reference library of the pages where leading SaaS companies turn products into revenue. Every page is captured full-length at desktop width, so you see the whole argument a company makes, from the hero to the FAQ, exactly as a buyer would.

Each capture carries a read of the page by our in-house strategist and a set of annotations pinned to the screenshot. Filled notes mark practices worth borrowing. Outlined notes go under the hood: what a choice reveals about how the company prices.

How does Datadog pricing work?

The value metric for Infrastructure is the host, defined in the FAQ as 'any physical or virtual OS instance that you monitor with Datadog'. Basic is priced 'Per host, per month' with 'Contact sales for pricing' and is described as 'Essential coverage for noncritical workloads', Pro is $ 15 per host per month with '*Billed annually or $18 on-demand', and Enterprise is $ 23 or $27 on-demand. Each paid host license carries allotments, 5 or 10 containers, 100 or 200 custom metrics and 500 or 1000 custom events, while the Basic column reads 'Not supported' for containers and '0 per host allotted' for custom metrics and events. The Free tier now lives in the FAQ as 'up to five Basic hosts with 1-day metric retention, at no cost', so the no-cost entry and the Basic level share one unit.

What does Datadog's pricing page do well?

  • Annual and on-demand rates are printed on every self-serve card, such as '*Billed annually or $18 on-demand' under $ 15, so a buyer can price a commitment before talking to sales
  • The Features table prints allotments as numbers across all three levels, from '0 per host allotted' on Basic to 100 and 200 custom metrics on Pro and Enterprise
  • The Basic card states its mixing rule in place: 'Basic hosts can be mixed with either Pro or Enterprise hosts in the same account.'
  • A grouped product navigator exposes the full SKU catalog on one page, with a Datadog Site selector above it for regional rates
  • The FAQ opens by defining the billing unit, 'A host is any physical or virtual OS instance that you monitor with Datadog', and closes by spelling out which coverage levels can be combined

What does Datadog's pricing page reveal about its pricing strategy?

  • Allotments attached to each host let Datadog price high-cardinality data, containers, custom metrics and custom events, while keeping the host as the headline metric
  • Basic is gated on exactly those data dimensions, with container monitoring 'Not supported' and zero custom metrics, which points to a lower-cost host level for noncritical workloads
  • Basic carries a public unit and a sales-set rate, which keeps room to shape price by volume and term for large fleets of lighter hosts
  • Custom metrics averaged monthly across the whole account turn per-host allotments into a shared pool
  • On-demand rates about 20% above annual price flexibility and make the annual commitment the default buy
