A field guide to pricing pages.

The Pricing Atlas is a reference library of the pages where leading SaaS companies turn products into revenue. Every page is captured full-length at desktop width, so you see the whole argument a company makes, from the hero to the FAQ, exactly as a buyer would.

Each capture carries a read of the page by our in-house strategist and a set of annotations pinned to the screenshot. Filled notes mark practices worth borrowing. Outlined notes go under the hood: what a choice reveals about how the company prices.

How does Upstash pricing work?

The value metric is the command, with storage and bandwidth as secondary meters. Pay as You Go charges '$0.2 per 100K commands' plus '$0.25 per GB' of storage past the first free gigabyte, and bandwidth is free up to 200GB a month, then '$0.03 per additional GB'. Fixed plans swap the command meter for capacity: a dropdown runs from 'Fixed 250MB' at '$10 / month' to 'Fixed 500GB', each with '$5 ✕ read regions' style pricing for replicas, and the comparison table states 'No per-command pricing' for that column. The two models sit next to each other because they suit two shapes of traffic, spiky and steady, and the headline names both: 'Pay only for what you use with per-request pricing. Or choose a Fixed plan for consistent usage with a flat price.'

What does Upstash's pricing page do well?

  • Pay as You Go and Fixed sit side by side, each card stating who it is for: 'Flexible pricing for variable traffic.' and 'For consistent loads with predictable costs.'
  • The Fixed card is a size picker, so seven capacity tiers fit inside one card with the read-region multiplier printed under the price
  • The comparison table labels each column by model, '1 FREE DB', 'USAGE BASED PRICING' and 'FIXED PRICING', and closes with a Price block that splits request, storage and bandwidth rates
  • A budget cap with email alerts at '70% and 90%' makes the usage plan safe to adopt
  • The FAQ prints worked billing math, such as '100K writes cost $0.4 ($0.2 x 2)' for a global database with one read region

What does Upstash's pricing page reveal about its pricing strategy?

  • Two models for two traffic shapes: commands metered for spiky workloads, capacity sold flat for steady ones, with auto-upgrade between Fixed sizes
  • Production features are an add-on at '+$200/month per database', which keeps the entry meter low and prices reliability per database
  • Replicated writes count as commands, so global replication scales the bill with the number of read regions on both models
  • Retired Pro 2K and Pro 10K plans at '$280/month and $680/month respectively' are named in the FAQ with a migration path, a record of how the lineup moved to usage plus add-ons
  • A no-signup database for AI agents makes the free tier an acquisition channel for coding agents as well as people

It is priced at "+$200/month per database" and the page recommends it for production use. It can be added to any plan except the Free tier and is enabled from the database details page in the Upstash dashboard.

How does the Upstash Redis budget cap work on pay-as-you-go?

On the pay-as-you-go plan you can set a maximum monthly budget for each database. Upstash sends email notifications when you reach 70% and 90% of that budget, so you can adjust the limit or upgrade to a Fixed plan. If usage exceeds the cap, the database is rate limited and your total cost stays within the chosen budget.

How are writes billed for Upstash global Redis databases with read regions?

For Global databases, write commands are replicated to all read regions in addition to the primary region, and those replications count as commands. The page gives a worked example: with one primary and one read region, "100K writes cost $0.4 ($0.2 x 2)." On Fixed plans, each read region adds a set monthly price, such as "+$5/region" on Fixed 250MB and "+$750/region" on Fixed 500GB.
